| From the AmbiEntrance site, review by David J. Opdyke, February 2003 http://www.ambientrance.org/0203/galant-ga.html Journey spaceward on Glenn Adams' Galactic Anthems; his computer-synths "sing" of assorted extraterrestrial destinations... from spacily gorgeous to gorgeously foreboding. Nice work! Steaming and streaming, the wisps of Spastik Teloasis (2:56) are imbued with thrumming energies and compelling e-drums. The bouncy star-jazz of Orbital Bop could emanate from the alien lounge in some sci-fi blockbuster. Less-structured Journey floats and undulates in sky-spanning sheets of assorted viscosities and timbres. Darkness nears when Tortured Souls appears... raging torrents of industrial-strength rhythms carry phantasmal cries within their grasp; the massive beatstorm recedes to allow the writhing spirals a short respite before surging again. Wild stuff! As creepy, yet more restrained, the ominous fogbanks of Midnight Mist boil with faint spectral glares... spooky-sweet! The shrouded dronelands of Way Out There also offer inviting isolationism. The howling tundra wolves of Frozen Wasteland may be a bit overt, but don't appear too often, so I can enjoy the sprawling desolation and tribaltronic percussion. Distant birdlife and ocean waves surf upon the glimmering vapors rippling above Distant Memories (6:45), a literally dreamlike sonic surrounding. In his Galactic Anthems persona, Glenn Adams presents 11 spacebound environments, often viewed from rather different perspectives; my favorites are those brooding planetscapes of desolation... mmmm. Galactic Anthems delivers noteworthy sounds from a new voice. Spacemusic fans especially, check it out! |
